Mikel Arteta says that Arsenal must go up against Manchester City and Newcastle United in the summer market.
Arsenal goes to St. James’ Park to cut Manchester City’s lead at the top of the Premier League to just one point.
To do this, they will have to beat Newcastle, who has won eight of its last nine Premier League games and is in a position to qualify for the Champions League.
Given City’s strong record and the fact that they still have a game in hand, it looks like Arsenal missed their chance to win the Premier League for the first time in 19 years, but Arteta said the team needs to make investments in the summer to be competitive.
Even though Manchester City and Newcastle United have ties to the wealth of Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia, respectively, the manager of the Gunners asked owner Stan Kroenke to put at least as much money into the team as Manchester City.

Arteta said, “We have to compete with those teams,” when asked if Arsenal could compete with Manchester City and Newcastle in the transfer market.
“Since we’re the Arsenal sports team, it’s a given. We need to figure out how to reach the goal of being the best at everything we do.
“We have done the same,” Arteta said. “[Newcastle] played very well this season, and they deserve to be where they are. Next season, though, things will be very different.
The Spaniard also stressed that the team was still in the hunt for the title and told the Gunners to make the most of their present situation.
Arteta said, “It is the best time to win the league because this is the moment and the best time is when you have something, you should try to take it.” This is especially true in professional sports, where you never know when you’ll get another chance.
“We’re trying to do just that. This is why we go to Newcastle: to win the game and stay there.
