Man United might sign Goncalo Ramos as Ronaldo replacement

It is reported that Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is looking at Portugal striker Goncalo Ramos as a possible replacement for former player Cristiano Ronaldo. This comes on the back of Ramos’ impressive display so far at the world cup in which he scored 3 goals before his country’s elimination in the quarter finals to Morocco. Man united view him as the ideal replacement as their search for a new striker in the January transfer window goes on.

United are in desperate need for a striker after Ronaldo’s exit with Anthony Martial just returning from injury and not fully match fit.

Since replacing Ronaldo in the starting lineup  and scoring a hattrick against Switzerland, Ramos has been widely tipped by many to be Ronaldo’s successor in the Portugal national team, and it looks like that might also happen at club level.

According to Luke Edwards of The Telegraph, Ramos’ name has been mentioned as one of the names being considered to add some bite to man United’s attack in January. Edwards is quoted as saying “Ramos was already being watched by scouts from a number of top European sides after stepping out of the shadow of Darwin Nunez.”

“United were already tracking Ramos’s progress closely, something welcomed by Ten Hag when he took over as manager seven months ago.”

It remains to be seen if Benfica will be willing to let go their star striker, just six months after they sold another prized asset of theirs – Darwin Nunez to Liverpool for a fee of close to €100m.
