Popular Nigerian actress, Tonto Dikeh opened up recently about her involvement in politics. She said in her recent conversation with press people that she would not be returning to Nollywood after the governorship election in Rivers State.
Tonto Dikeh Quits Acting for Politics in Rivers State
Recall that the controversial actress was announced as the deputy governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State for next year’s general elections. Her candidacy has made her fans and critics comment on the ADC gubernatorial ticket for 2023. For many, it’s a development they welcome and they believe Tonto Dikeh has the clout, personality, and charisma to become deputy governor in Rivers State in 2023. While her critics believe that the controversial lifestyle of the popular actress might rub off on the ticket.

She had an interview with BBC News Pidgin, and in that interview, Tonto said she won’t be coming back to the Nollywood industry to continue even if her party loses the forthcoming election in Rivers State. When asked if she has now completely retired from acting, the popular actress said, “I do not like movies like that again and it has been a long time since I acted on screen, you know.
“I have acted in about two(2) films in 10 years, I am grateful that my path started from Nollywood, I do respect that a lot, but hasn’t been part of me the entire time I’ve been in it.”
The actress continued by adding, “So even after the election, it is not something I’ll return to, but I will love to add my input to the industry when I get into power,” Tonto said. Tonto Dikeh went ahead to commend her colleagues, Banky W and Funke Akindele for their courage and participation in politics.
“It’s really not easy for Funke Akindele and Banky W at their level to put themselves out there to try effect change because criticisms and so many other things are involved. “I believe strongly in Funke Akindele, I believe in Banky W. With these people, I can hold onto something and say that they have a positive vision for the people,” she said.
Tonto has been warmly welcomed into the political scene in Nigeria. Just as she achieved great success through acting, singing and other humanitarian works, a lot of Tonto Dikeh and Nollywood fans want to see her back acting in their favourite films, entertaining them. After receiving her ADC certificate of return, she pledged to work hard for her party wins the elections next year.
