Thomas Tuchel has been restocking his Chelsea roster during the season’s transfer window, but previous Blues star Glen Johnson thinks the German has to make at least one more acquisition.
Former Chelsea player Glen Johnson has pushed the Blues to pursue Wesley Fofana, saying that a deal would give them the finest defence in the league.

Thomas Tuchel Urged To Sign Wesley Fofana

When Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger left Stamford Bridge after the previous season, Thomas Tuchel’s options at the back were limited. Although the Senegal captain was dismissed following the team’s Sunday loss to Leeds, the German still acquired Kalidou Koulibaly to fortify his backline.

Fofana, a young French player, has been Chelsea’s target for much of the summer, but Leicester has insisted that he is not for sale. It is rumoured that the Blues are putting together an £80 million offer for the centre-back in the hopes that it will entice the Foxes into accepting a deal.

He was not included in the Leicester team for either of their last two matches, a loss to Southampton and a victory over Stockport County on penalties. The Foxes manager has disclosed that the choice was made because Fofana had his head turned, not for tactical purposes.

Johnson believes it is time for the Blues to make amends for a long-standing transfer mistake because Fofana is eager to leave the King Power Stadium and join Tuchel’s team. The former FA Cup champion encouraged the Blues to renew their pursuit of the Frenchman. On paper, Chelsea’s defence may now be the best in the Premier League. You would struggle to perform better than that because you would have three athletes, experience, and youth on your side.

“Chelsea should have acquired Fofana years ago. He was once one of the top defenders in the world, so I’m amazed he’s been at Leicester for this long since he couldn’t even make the French team a few years back.”

“I was experiencing unbelievable things. They could have bought him for a fair price a few years ago, but now they’ll have to pay twice as much”. Along with Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella, Carney Chukwuemeka, Cesare Casadei, and Gabriel Slonina, Kouliably is one of Chelsea’s six new additions so far this summer.
Johnson has praised that transaction and asserted that the Blues had the finest window of all Premier League clubs. The former Chelsea player has been happy with Tuchel’s efforts even if he acknowledged that he wanted Rudiger to stay.

“I believe Chelsea has had the finest. Kalidou Koulibaly, who has great looks, will be of great benefit to them. Raheem Sterling is a great addition, and they have high expectations for Marc Cucurella as the left-back”.
“Nobody else that I can think of has done that with three significant players. In my perspective, Rüdiger ought to have remained. I believe that if he hadn’t made that minor mistake, he and Koulibaly would have created a better team”. “Overall, he is the only player they have sold this summer who I would have kept, so I think they did well overall”.
