Pep Guardiola to block Manchester City star from joining Real Madrid to force Barcelona move – Reports

The boss of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, is said to want to stop Real Madrid from signing Joao Cancelo, who wants to play for Barcelona.

After falling out of favour at City in January, the Portugal international was allowed to go on loan to Bayern Munich for six months. But Thomas Tuchel isn’t happy with all of his efforts, so the Bavarians will not use the option to buy him for €60 million that is in his deal.

El Nacional says that Barcelona and Real Madrid are watching the matter. Cancelo is now a real target for the Catalan giants because they want Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde to stop playing right back.

The 28-year-old’s move to Real Madrid will also be a good thing because he can play left back in a number of different ways. Daniel Carvajal (31) doesn’t have much competition at right back, and Los Blancos are said to be looking for Ferland Mendy’s replacement.

Cancelo wants to help Real Madrid, but Guardiola won’t let him. He is said to be against such a move and would prefer that the Manchester City loanee go to Barcelona instead.

Guardiola’s past as a player and boss for Barcelona won’t be the reason for this. He is said to see Real Madrid as Manchester City’s main rival in Europe and not hold the Blaugrana to the same standard.
