Nicki Minaj Debuts at Number One on Billboard Hot 100
The rapper’s latest hit song making waves globally is titled Super Freaky Girl and has now debuted at number one(1) on the prestigious Billboard chart. The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot Hundred (100), making the rapper the first solo rapper to set such a record in 24 years.
The last solo rapper made it to number one on the Hot 100 in 1998. Lauryn Hill achieved that feat in 1998 with her hit song Doo Wop (That Thing).

The Billboard noted that Super Freaky Girl by Nicki Minaj was streamed 21million times last week alone. The song also sat at number one on the download chart with 89,000 sales – this has been the highest sales week this year for any song.
Nicki went on Twitter to congratulate herself on her latest achievement and tweeted to her wonderful fans: “You did it.” The song Super Freaky Girl continued to create more records and is now Nicki’s first number one as a lone artist and her third overall.
Nicki Minaj has entered number one before now but not as a solo artist. She reached number one with songs like the Trollz, which was a superb collaboration with 6ix9ine. She also reached number one as a featured artist on Doja Cat’s hit Say So.
Nicki Minaj’s biggest solo hit before now was Anaconda which was released in 2014. The song peaked at number two and was widely celebrated and loved. Super Freaky Girl samples Rick James’s – Super Freak, and in the song, Nicki boasted about her sexual talent, similar to what James did in 1981.
Nicki’s version is produced by Dr Luke, who has been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. But the musician has always denied the accusations and sued his accuser, Kesha, for defamation. Due to the accusations and counter-accusations, many musicians have decided not to work with Dr Luke.
Finally, Minaj is set to receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award this weekend at the MTV Awards. Nicki will also perform and co-host the event.
