Netizens react after Festus Kiyamo criticizes those attempting to maintain ‘Japa’ following the Paris protest

Netizens have reacted angrily to the Federal Minister of Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo’s, remark about those who are still planning to ‘Japa.’

Festus Kiyamo took to Twitter to discuss the country’s economic situation and the global economic downturn.

He linked his explanation for the economic crisis to the soaring prices in Paris, which prompted thousands of citizens to protest. The lawyer continued by criticizing Netizens who wish to relocate to other countries in search of greener pastures.

“Massive protests on the streets of Paris over soaring prices,” Festus Kiyamo wrote. Meanwhile, some continue to ‘Japa’ abroad, as if Nigeria is isolated from current global issues. Some Nigerians who are aware of the issues are also deceiving them and playing local politics with global issues.”

Internet users’ reactions to Festus Kiyamo’s tweet

Netizens did not take Festus Kiyamo’s comments lightly and took to social media to refute his assertion.

Festus Kiyamo

@health buddy b: There are soaring prices and inflation all over the world, but the big difference is that those protesting still have the basics, such as food, shelter, and clothing, which many Nigerians do not have. That is why they will stay in Japa.

@amsmarto: But you didn’t say that when we peacefully protested and you massacred us.

@noell.ng: At least they can protest peacefully; in my country, we are not allowed to protest at all. Our government will send armed police officers to kill innocent protesters. Shame.

@larrissabell: Except it’s not global. And prices aren’t rising; they’re skyrocketing.

@ceo m.k black7: If this type of protest occurs in Nigeria, an estimated 1 million people will be killed by unknown gunmen.

@ichie 6ixfigurz: We were experiencing this inflationary trend prior to global issues, and we are still experiencing global issues. If you do not vote out these bad leaders who are always making up excuses, we will continue to suffer as a nation as a result of global issues.

@mich nath jess: Festus Kiyamo, why did you send your family overseas?

@mss tilda: At the very least, there will be a profound solution to the type of government we have at the end of the protest.

@muyee wazy Make them go, I don cancel my visa, my two Japa friends are planning to return, lol, Oga for Nigeria has turned cleaner abroad. The second one is still looking for work….omo, japajapa people, have a safe journey.

@somidotun Africa dgeneral: Abeg is still not comparable to Nigeria 1000%. A Paris cleaner earns 1,000 times more than a Nigerian banker.

@erobert133: But they could at least protest in large numbers without getting shot at by stupid people who are always attempting to protect themselves.

@ajebodcomedian: The one who issued the order to fire and murder peaceful demonstrators is the one Nigerians tried to demonstrate for. The one pointing fingers while playing politics with Nigeria’s future.

@dipzongs: Comparing individuals who have social amenities, a good passport, nicer weather, and excellent food is really mumu man God will judge all of you, your family, and your relatives who live in Europe or America/Australia.

@pelz: At the very least, they will not shoot demonstrators.

@chigozie ehim: A poor person in Paris has a better life than a wealthy one in Nigeria. Festus is one of them.

Japa, according to Pooja, is eroding the cornerstone of friendship.

According to NewsGist24 news, television personality, Suliman Pooja Adebayo claims that the relocation of some Nigerians known as ‘Japa’ is eroding the foundation of friendship.

Pooja’s claim was based on a tale he told about a buddy who traveled without alerting her buddies. These were the same people that spent a hundred thousand Naira on traditional clothing for her wedding and also organized an elaborate bridal shower for her.

“Japa” is undermining the foundation of our friendships, Pooja tweeted. Her friends spent $100,000 on “aso ebi” for her wedding, and prepared a bridal shower for her at a top hotel in Lekki, her wedding was lighted up with videos/pictures trending like CNN, then on Sunday, they saw her post with her new spouse and images from the UK. She didn’t tell ANYONE.”
