Antony, a newly signed winger for Manchester United, responded to criticism that he was showboating during the Europa League match against Sheriff Tiraspol by saying that he is not going to stop because that was what brought him to this level.

During Thursday’s 3:0 victory against Moldovan side Sheriff Tiraspol, Antony impressed the crowd by doing a 720-degree spin on the ball while it was stuck to his left foot.

After the match on Thursday, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag said that he would discipline the Brazilian player if he were to engage in unnecessary showboating.

Antony posted the following message on his Instagram account: “We’re recognised for our artwork and I won’t stop doing the thing that got me where I am.”  On Friday, the young man, who is now 22 years old, uploaded the message.

Following the 720-degree spin by Antony, he then knocked the ball clean out of play, setting up a goal-kick opportunity for the opposition team.

According to Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag, the 720 spin was not the reason he substituted Antony at halftime. Ten Hag said “I’ve got no problem with his spin or his tricks as long as they are useful and perform well.

I expect more from him, Antony, including more rushes behind, more time spent in the box, and more pocket play.

“Whenever there is a technique such as that, it’s good so long as it serves its purpose. If you are not losing possession of the ball, then it is OK; but, if it is a trick because of a trick, then I will warn him.
