Former Chelsea captain to retire

On November 16, former Chelsea defender Gary Cahill announced his retirement. Both Chelsea officials and the England team sent blessings to Cahill.

At 36, the native of Sheffield decided to hang up the crampons when he was without a club, after twenty wonderful years in the game that gave him “much enjoyment and success”. Cahill, on his verified Twitter page on Wednesday afternoon, made the disclosure in a statement and also explained in detail his dream of becoming a footballer and his achievements so far on the pitch.

As he made the choice to hang up his boots, he said, “I can honestly say I gave it everything I had. Football is a game that has brought me so much fun and success.”

Without a contract since the end of his one-year freelance on the Bournemouth side, Gary Cahill officially announced his retirement this Wednesday. The former Chelsea defender, therefore, hangs up after 18 seasons of good and loyal service.

Cahill has played for Chelsea for 7 years and served as the captain of the team. Most of his career will have been built in Bolton but especially in Chelsea with 290 games on the clock and 25 goals.

Cahill has won 1 Champions League title, 2 Europa League titles, 2 Premier League titles, 2 FA Cup titles and 1 League Cup title at Chelsea.

Cahill’s contract with Bournemouth expired last season, and he did not renew his contract after that, nor did he join other teams.

Cahill played 61 times on behalf of the England national team, scoring 5 goals and 1 assist. He participated in 2 World Cups and 1 European Cup.
