Reports indicate that the crash happened at around midnight as crowds gathered to watch a concert and celebrate the start of the new year in Kampala.
Deadly crash in Kampala: The sad event
The concert, which was being held at a venue known as the “Freedom City,” was reportedly packed with people, and as the clock struck midnight, many of the concert-goers tried to leave the venue at the same time.
As people rushed towards the exits, a crash occurred, and several people were trampled in the stampede. The exact number of casualties is not yet known, but reports suggest that at least ten people have died as a result of the incident, with many more injured.
Eyewitnesses have described chaotic scenes at the concert, with people screaming and trying to escape the crush within the Kampala region in Uganda. Emergency services have been working throughout the night to try and rescue those who were trapped in the stampede, and many of the injured have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
