Burna Boy, aka Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, said on Wednesday that he was in prison in the United Kingdom before returning to Nigeria to pursue a music career. The musician revealed in a series of messages on his Twitter profile that he didn’t expect to live this long. Burna said that if people understood what he had done in the past to live, they would be glad for him.

He later removed the tweets. The singer stated, “I came directly from Chelmsford HMP into the music industry.” I never imagined I’d live this long. So now it’s all simply amusing when people talk about me. Of course, I’d do it with my damaged leg or even without legs or arms. Nigeria has never heard of me. I’m not interested in being the biggest Nigerian artist. I’m glad I can do what I enjoy and provide for my family.
If you knew half of what I used to do for money, jeopardizing my freedom daily, you’d be happier for me.

When another user mentioned that Burna Boy’s ‘African Giant’ doesn’t have the finest certification, the Grammy winner replied, “Come and grab it from me and give it to Wizkid.” Another person commented on Burna’s post, saying, “Egbon, you still call Wizkid your friend?” The Tweet prompted Burna Boy to respond with a shocking statement:

If he (Wizkid) wasn’t my guy, I would have smacked him in the face on sight simply to let his Twitter followers know I’m not Davido. But, Alhamdulilah, I’m wise enough and mature enough to recognize that he (Wizkid) is not you.
