Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile moves to the top of Chelsea transfer wishlist

Benoit Badiashile

Chelsea is looking to add reinforcements to their backline in January and has been linked with so many names. Despite sustained interest in RB Leipzig centre-back and World Cup breakout star Josko Gvardiol, French international and Monaco man Benoit Badiashile has moved atop the Blues’ wish list.

The 21-year-old is adept at playing different roles at the back, in different systems. He can play in a back four or on the left of a back three, and both clubs are rumoured to have begun talks over a deal to be finalised in January. The Principality club are demanding a transfer fee of €35m in order to allow Badiashile to move to west London.

Badiashile, who has been at the club since 2016, and came through the ranks from the youth system, has made 135 appearances for the club in all competitions and has been a virtual ever-present and a regular in the side since 2018-19. The defender has had a good season for them this year where he has exhibited his sterling qualities, particularly his ability on the ball and in one-on-one situations.

Chelsea has indicated their interest and has been on his trail since the summer, despite regularly being linked with a move for Gvardiol. It is said that Badiashile is considered a top priority at Stamford Bridge, ahead of other defenders being linked to the club like 23-year-old Evan Ndicka of Eintracht Frankfurt and 20-year-old Piero Hincapie of Bayer Leverkusen.
