Bad news as Armando Broja sustains injury during match against Aston Villa

Armando Broja

John McGinn’s goal was the difference as Chelsea lost to Aston Villa in a friendly match played in Abu Dhabi yesterday. Both teams started strong, with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Jorginho, Marc Cucurella, and Armando Broja starting for the blues. The Argentine goalkeeper was the only big name absent for Villa as he is still at the World cup.

Youngster Omari Hutchinson had a shot saved in the 2nd minute by Villa’s 2nd choice keeper Robin Olsen, but it was John McGinn that opened the scoring in the 7th which proved to be the only goal of the match. Hutchinson struck the post some minutes later in the 11th minute before Broja tested the Aston Villa goal, but he was to be stretched off in the 20th minute with what looked like a fairly serious injury.

Chelsea keeper Marcus Bettinelli made a good save in the match in the 30th minute by stopping Ollie Watkins, which was followed by a save as well from the opposition keeper Olsen denying Aubameyang. It was Aston Villa that had the final chance of the first half when youngster Arjan Raikhy hit the post, just a minute before halftime.

The second half started like the first one ended, with both teams having chances to add to the scoreline, Lewis Hall tested the villa keeper in the 52nd minute before Bettinelli likewise saved against Leon Bailey. From then on it was a relatively quiet affair as both sides struggled to create chances to alter the outcome of the match.
